Abstract: This paper shows the design of a low-cost platform for learning automobile software development in high education and research institutions. In a host-target development scheme, the platform is made up of software and hardware components. The development platform supplies the required tool-chain to design and implement ECU embedded software. Moreover, the execution platform provides a hardware solution to emulate automobile E/E architectures. The overall setup aims to explain the automobile software development process over V-cycle including analysis of user requirements, logical and technical system architecture, design, and implementation of software components and testing. The capabilities and limitations of our proposed low-cost platform were also investigated throughout three experiments using the OSEK-VDX standard and Model-Based Design (MBD) concept. Experimental results have shown success in emulating key electronics components and automobile functionalities which can improve the learning process and student experience.
