Discurso e identidade : um olhar crítico sobre a atuação do(a) intérprete de LIBRAS na educação superior

Abstract

O objetivo principal deste estudo é analisar como se constitui discursivamente a identidade do(a) intérprete de LIBRAS que atua na educação superior, as relações de poder presentes nessa prática e as implicações sociais da mesma. A investigação desse tema emergente na sociedade atual lança luz sobre questões como acessibilidade e igualdade de oportunidades, com a finalidade de analisar as posições identitárias ora atribuídas aos(as) intérpretes de LIBRAS ora reivindicadas por eles(as), em suas interações com outros atores sociais presentes no contexto acadêmico, principalmente professores e alunos(as) surdos(as). O arcabouço teórico-metodológico adotado é a Análise de Discurso Crítica (Fairclough, trad. 2001 e 2003, Wodak, 2001 e Chouliaraki e Fairclough, 1999), que considera o discurso como um momento da prática social e é articulado com a categoria da identidade, estabelecida pela diferença (Woodward, 2000). O estudo resulta na identificação de discursos coexistentes no contexto acadêmico, ancorados em representações que tanto contribuem para a constituição da identidade social do(a) intérprete educacional quanto se inscrevem nas interações entre intérpretes, estudantes surdos(as) e professores. Além do discurso que serve à reprodução de práticas sociais excludentes, foi identificado um discurso a serviço da transformação social. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this study is to analyse the discursive construction of the LIBRAS Sign Language interpreter’s identity in the context of higher education in Brazil, the power relations in this practice and its social implications. The investigation of this emerging topic in contemporary society sheds light on such issues as access and equal opportunities, with the aim of examining the identity positions attributed to Sign Language interpreters or that they claim, in their interactions with social actors in this context, mainly teachers and deaf students. The theoretical-methodological approach framework adopted is Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, trans. 2001 and 2003, Wodak and Meyer, eds. 2001, and Chouliaraki and Fairclough, 1999), which considers discourse as a moment of social practice articulated with the category of identity, which is established by difference (Woodward, 2000). The study results in the definition of coexistent discourses in the academic context, supported by representations that, both contribute to the constitution of the educational interpreter’s social identity and are, in term, inscribed in the interactions among interpreters, deaf students and teachers. A discourse that reproduces social exclusion practices is visible, as is another that promotes social transformation.
