Da tradução terminológica em glossário temático na área de saúde suplementar

Abstract

Este estudo foi motivado pela observação dos problemas enfrentados pelos especialistas em Saúde Suplementar e pela Equipe de Terminologia da Saúde do Ministério da Saúde na tradução para o inglês dos termos do glossário temático de Saúde Suplementar. Fez-se uso de softwares de linguística de corpus em diferentes fases de montagem do glossário: na seleção dos termos da terminologia; no levantamento das acepções semânticas para auxiliar na elaboração das definições, e na procura por equivalentes em inglês e espanhol. Nossa reflexão teórico-metodológica discute sobre a distinção entre linguagem artificial (inventada com base na língua natural) e linguagem de especialidade (que faz parte da língua natural, mas se refere a uma área específica) para estabelecer o nível de atualização da linguagem deste trabalho, i.e, o discurso. Discute-se, também, a relação entre unidade terminológica e unidade de tradução para entender a formação dos termos e o processo tradutivo em linguagem de especialidade. Apresenta-se a estrutura do vocabulário especializado e apontam-se as peculiaridades dos paradigmas da definição terminológica. Estuda-se a tradução terminológica no glossário e analisam-se os seus tipos e propósitos para entender o funcionamento e a necessidade de criação neológica em tradução. Discutem-se as noções de fidelidade e equivalência tendo em vista a tradução do português para o inglês, i.e., traduzir-se para o outro, a versão feita por brasileiros servidores de uma instituição pública. Reflete-se sobre o processo dinâmico da criação neológica tanto na língua original quanto na tradução e sobre o fato de esses termos e traduções basearem-se nas necessidades da instituição e da sociedade. Na neologia tradutiva, mostra-se como o significado num universo de discurso particular caracteriza-se pelo grau de especialidade, possibilitando assim a expressão de um conceito novo numa área nova. Analisam-se as escolhas tradutivas utilizadas neste glossário apresentando diferentes exemplos de procedimentos, como paráfrase, uso de siglas, explicitação. Por fim, considerando-se a dinâmica da língua, que influencia e é influenciada pela linguagem de especialidade, entendemos que glossários institucionais, que por vezes são normativos, ou seja, determinam a linguagem a ser utilizada em um meio específico, influencia na circulação de termos de especialidade. Por fim, ressaltamos como a criação neológica em tradução contribui para o enriquecimento da língua, provocado pelo intercâmbio entre os especialistas de diversos países e entre estes e o público em geral. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

This study was motivated by the observation of the problems faced by experts in Private Health Insurance and Plans and the Health Terminology Team at the Ministry of Health in the translation into English of the thematic glossary of Private Health Insurance and Plans. In preparing the glossary we used corpus linguistics in different phases of the glossary: selection of the terminology, survey of the semantic meanings to assist in the establishment of definitions, and search for equivalents in English and Spanish. Our theoretical and methodological considerations discuss the distinction between artificial language (based on natural language) and special purpose languages (part of natural language, which refer to an specific knowledge areas) aiming to establish the level of language update of this work, ie., the speech. We also discuss the relationship between terminology unit and translation unit to understand the formation of terms and the translation process in special purpose languages. We present the structure of the specialized vocabulary and show the peculiarities of the paradigms of terminological definitions. We study terminological translation in the glossary and analyze the types and aims of the neologies to understand how they work and the need to create translations. We briefly discuss the notions of fidelity and equivalence within translation from Portuguese into English, ie, translating the reality of a Brazilian public institution to foreigners. We consider the dynamic process of the neological creation both in the original language and in the translation and the fact that these terms and translations are based on the needs of the institution and the society. In neology translation we demonstrate how words used with one sense in a specific universe of discourse is characterized by the degree of expertise, which enables the user to express a new concept in a new area. We analyze the choices of translation used in this glossary and illustrate with different examples of procedures, such as paraphrasing, use of acronyms, explicitation. Finally, considering the dynamic aspect of languages which influences and is influenced by special purpose languages, we understand that institutional glossaries, which sometimes are normative, i.e., determine the language to be used in a specific area, serve as instruments that influence the circulation of specialized language terms. At last, we emphasize how neological creation in translation contributes to the enrichment of the language, mainly caused by the exchange between experts from different countries and between them and the public.
