O presente trabalho é fruto das motivações e inquietações pessoais acerca da História da Arquitetura Brasileira. Procurou ressaltar a relação entre o ecletismo e a implantação da modernidade no Brasil no século XIX e

o início do século XX. Para essa modernidade se transformar em tradição em terras brasileiras foi necessário abordar o principal produto econômico naquele momento

que foi o café. O estudo escolheu como recorte geográico a região sudeste, em particular a Zona da Mata Mineira. Utilizando um arcabouço teórico multidisciplinar, diferentes áreas do conhecimento foram estudadas como: Arquitetura, História, Literatura, Economia,

Artes e Transportes. Considerando o progresso

before Modernism. It tries to highlight the relation between eclecticism and the implantation of modernity in Brazil in the 19th century and in the beginning of the

20th century. It was necessary to approach the main economic product in that period, i. e., the cofee. his work is geographically limited within the Brazilian Southeastern region, especially on Minas Gerais Southeastern portion called Zona da Mata.
