Abstract: Polyvictimization is a concept coined by a group of American authors in the early 2000s and it refers to the phenomenon in which the same person is a victim of more than one type of violence. Almost 20 years later, research in this area in Brazil is still lacking, although our country is historically marked by polyvictimization. There are studies that show that boys tend to be more polyvictims than girls and that historical, social and contextual factors, such as the pattern of hegemonic masculinity, place them at greater risk. For male polyvictims, the time between the occurrence of an episode of violence and its disclosure can take years, or even not occur. In Brazil, also from the 2000s onwards, important advances were made with regard to the System for Guaranteeing the Rights of Children and Adolescents. More recently, Law nº 13.431/2017 is noteworthy. From a systemic-new paradigmatic epistemological framework, with its assumptions of complexity, instability and intersubjectivity, and from the systemic theory, the objective of this dissertation is to understand the phenomenon of polyvictimization of male children and adolescents, from the perspective of polyvictims, family members and professionals. To do so, this research used a qualitative multimethod proposal, adopting the reflexive thematic analysis tool by Braun and Clarke as the main methodological axis, also assuming premises of methodological perspectives such as action research and the qualitative proposal of González-Rey. The participants were divided into three groups: three polyvictimized boys (Group 1), three mothers of boys who were victims of sexual violence (Group 2) and 21 professionals from the following areas: Social Assistance, Education, Justice, Public Ministry, Health, Public Security and Civil Society (Group 3). The 27 participants were interviewed and, due to the Covid-19 pandemic scenario, 14 interviews were made online. The content of all transcripts was analyzed following the six steps of the reflexive thematic analysis proposal, which foresees a fluid process, with a leading role in the researcher's subjectivity and an emphasis on the idea of knowledge construction. The six steps are: familiarization, coding, generating potential themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming subthemes, and reviewing and producing the report. For Group 1, we developed 6 themes and 12 subthemes, 6 themes and 8 subthemes for Group 2, and for Group 3, 14 themes and 30 subthemes. We observed that the non-recognition of polyvictimization occurred for the three groups of participants, which signals the importance of investing continuous and collective efforts for a paradigmatic shift that starts to see and name the occurrences of different types of violence, even before thinking about and planning interventions for male polyvictims. We expect that efforts are invested to provide health and well-being to polyvictims and that the family is always included, either because they also have a history of (poly)victimization, because they are offenders, or because of their need to offer support without reproducing stereotypes, such as that boys are more independent and do not suffer sexual violence. We also defend the strengthening of the social network, by offering continuous training to professionals, so that institutions can fulfill their role of offering guidance and support. We suggest carrying out further research in other cities to broaden the understanding of the phenomenon in an even broader context in Brazil.
