Abstract:	The present study aims at identifying the way in which safety co-production occurs considering the forms, the governmental stimulus and the citizen's propensity to co-produce safety in a study in the Brazilian Federal District. A total of 82 semi-structured interviews were carried out with 22 engaged citizens and 60 non-engaged in formal safety co-production mechanisms using theoretical saturation sampling, in order to identify the main activities and forms of co-production performed, the propensity to co-produce and the perception of incentives for co-production promoted by the government from the citizen’s perspective. In order to identify the actions and means of stimulating safety coproduction, a documentary search was carried out in governmental sites and legislation. In order to analyze data, a content analysis was carried out, identifying 38 activities citizens recognize as actions that they perform for the co-production of safety, and individual activities with little or no interaction with security organs were prevalent in the declarations of the interviewed. It is seen that the citizens interviewed in the study contribute to security through preventive and repressive actions. In preventive activities, in addition to actions such as traversing dangerous areas in groups and carrying self-protection devices, other forms of co-production can be observed, such as informational, political, economic, and social. In repressive activities, in which actions such as citizen intervention in crime situations and the possibility of sentencing jail to other citizens were identified, co-production of information for crime repression was also observed. Seven categories were identified that would make uninvolved citizens more likely to contribute to security: interaction with government, satisfaction with public services delivery, self-defense, time and available resources, knowledge about the forms of participation and collective mobilization. In addition, it was possible to describe various forms of government stimulus to co-production, such as nudges, incentives and rational persuasion, from the pertinent legislation and the citizens' perception of governmental stimuli. As it's foremost contribution, the present work expands the understanding about the phenomenon of coproduction and its forms and deepens the analysis on the forms of stimulus offered by the government to engage citizens in security actions.
