Abstract:	The main argument lies in the idea that during the development of social-environmental projects several social representations are involved and that the recognition of such representations may help identify challenges, limits, and perspectives throughout the projects. The study seeks to identify the social representations of participants from the different organizations involved in the Mulheres das Águas Project, and of members of the communities of the Fort, the Mingau and the Pontezinha, Settlement Project, in the municipality of São João d’Aliança, where the project is being carried out, aiming at stimulating tourism in the region. The survey of the representations was carried out through semi-structured interviews, including participative observation in activities of interest to the group from the Mulheres das Águas Project and within the scope of the these communities. The findings of the investigation include aspects related to the gender, the family, the economic conditions, and the affective and spiritual ties revealed by the subjects, interfering in the formation and movement of their social representation of the social and natural environment, of tourism, and their perspectives. The study also addresses the social representations involving expectations about toward others, leading the discussion to myths about the hero. The study then suggests a reflection on the awareness raising of these representations, as a possible means of broadening the relational perspective, enhancing the development of the Mulheres das Águas Project. The study also points out some issues that should be considered by the group, particularly regarding the activities developed in previous phases of the Project and which are intended to be consolidated along with the development of tourism, stressing the fact that the transformation of these activities into an effective alternative source of income seems to be an important challenge for the strengthening of the social representations, coupled with the need for environmental conservation.
