Abstract: Information asymmetry is a phenomenon that stems from the informational differences between the parties involved in an agreement, which can lead one to gain advantages over the other. To prevent this from occurring, it is interesting to curb the occurrence of this phenomenon. Regulation is an activity that deals with the conflict of interests between the parties, the regulator and the regulated, and therefore, the phenomenon of informational asymmetry is present in this relation, but its occurrence is not easily identifiable which can harm the regulatory objectives due to lack of information or incomplete or misleading information for decision making. Therefore, the objective of this work is to propose criteria that allow to evaluate the level of asymmetry of the information of land transportation in Brazil. For this, the methodology used was the bibliographical revision in order to provide a better understanding of the issues related to the theme, combined with documentary and normative research to gather information about the reality of regulation and asymmetry in the land transportation sector. This work is organized in five chapters. The first, of introduction, brings a contextualization of the theme, presents the research problem, the objectives, the justification and the methodology. In the second chapter is presented a theoretical reference on the concepts related to the subject, to offer a theoretical basis to the dissertation. In the third chapter, we present the land transport sector and how regulation and the asymmetry of information occurs and the use of information in this context. In the fourth chapter, the proposal of criteria for the evaluation of information asymmetry in the land transport sector is presented. The fifth chapter concludes that the elaboration of the criteria for assessing the level of asymmetry of information can bring greater transparency about the quality of the information of land transportation, which contributes not only to its improvement but also to increase the reliability of the information to be used for decision-making in the accomplishment of regulatory objectives.
