Fatores institucionais e desempenho acadêmico no ENADE : um estudo sobre os cursos de Biologia, Engenharia Civil, História e Pedagogia

Abstract

A presente tese constitui-se em um estudo a respeito da influência de fatores institucionais sobre o rendimento de estudantes concluintes de Biologia, Engenharia Civil, História e Pedagogia no Exame Nacional de Desempenho de Estudantes (Enade) em 2005. Os cursos correspondem respectivamente às áreas do conhecimento classificadas por Becher (1994; 2001), a saber: ciências duras-puras, ciências duras-aplicadas, ciências brandas-puras e ciências brandas-aplicadas. A tese estabelece que características institucionais influenciam positivamente o desempenho acadêmico de estudantes de graduação. Os estudos direcionados para a influência de fatores escolares no rendimento dos estudantes são voltados, predominantemente, para a educação básica. Na educação superior, as análises a respeito do desempenho dos estudantes levam em consideração características individuais e socioeconômicas. A tese sustentou-se na hipótese de que, controladas as variáveis individuais e socioeconômicas,características institucionais relevantes - instalações físicas, equipamentos, laboratórios, biblioteca, espaço pedagógico e titulação docente - das instituições de ensino superior influenciam o desempenho apresentado pelos estudantes no Enade. A pesquisa que fundamenta a tese é de caráter quantitativo. Foram utilizados dois modelos de análise dos dados: regressão múltipla, com o objetivo de verificar efeitos institucionais sobre o desempenho dos estudantes, e a árvore de classificação (Classification Tree), com o objetivo de caracterizar instituições de ensino superior públicas e privadas com relação a fatores institucionais. Verificou-se que essa influência não é homogênea, que se altera conforme a categoria administrativa e a organização acadêmica da instituição de ensino superior. Os dados analisados foram obtidos nos microdados do Enade 2005, disponibilizados pelo Inep/MEC. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The present thesis is concerned with the study about the influence of institutional factors regarding the student‟s performance on Biology, Civil Engineer, History and Education courses at the national examination of the performance students in the year of 2005 (Enade/2005). The courses are correspondents, respectively, to the disciplinary areas classifieds by Becher (1994, 2001) as following: hard-pure sciences; hard-applied sciences; soft-pure sciences and soft-applied sciences. The thesis establishes the positive influence of institutional characteristics to the academic performance of the graduation students. The studies directed to the influence of scholars factors on the students performance are turned mainly to the basic education. At the higher education schools (Universities) the analysis regarding the students take into account individuals and socio-economics characteristics. The present thesis supports itself on the hypothesis that, since the individuals and socio-economics variables are under control, the institutional characteristics vitally important to the higher educations schools (Universities) - as physical installations or facilities, equipments, laboratories, libraries, educational spaces and teaching titles - have a very great influence on the students performance at the ENADE/2005. We have seen that this influence is not homogeneous and it is modified according to the administrative level and the academic organization of the University. The basic research of this thesis has a quantitative meaning. There were used two models for the data processing analysis: the “multiple regression”, with the objective of verifying the institutional consequences on the students performance and the “Classification Tree”, under the objective of characterize the public or private Universities concerned to the institutional factors. The data here considered are based in the micro-data informed by ENADE/2005, made available by INEP/MEC.
