A phronesis aristotélica e a bioética contemporânea

Abstract

A ciência bioética tem se desenvolvido enormemente perante os desafios que os avanços tecnológicos da medicina e da biologia têm representado na relação com o ser humano. Por outro lado, os desafios socioambientais também persistem no hemisfério sul do planeta, onde uma enorme massa humana não tem acesso sequer à cidadania mais básica. Ambas realidades reivindicam da bioética uma fundamentação epistemológica que seja capaz de lidar com tal amplitude de temas. Essa fundamentação só ocorre devidamente como resultado de uma adequada reflexão filosófica. Esta dissertação investiga a possibilidade de a doutrina aristotélica da phronesis ou sabedoria prática (em grego, φρόνησις) ser uma opção para tal fundamentação. Por seu caráter prático e, portanto, eminentemente humano, vinculada à circunstância contingente, que permeia interna e externamente a ação humana, a virtude da φρόνησις, inserida em seu tempo e lugar, oferece as bases para a prática deliberativa e tomada de decisão, entre outros elementos presentes na racionalidade prática que subjaz a epistemologia das correntes bioéticas atuais. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The bioethical science has been developed enormously by the challenges that the technologic advances of medicine and biology has represented in the relation with the human being. On the other side, the social and environmental challenges also persist in the south hemisphere, where a huge human mass doesn’t have access to the most basic citizenship. Both realities reclaim an epistemological foundation that should be capable of dealing with such extension of aspects. This reasoning only occurs properly when is a result of a correct philosophical reflection. This dissertation investigates the possibility that the aristothelic doctrine of phronesis or practical wisdom (φρόνησις in greek) is a valid option for such reasoning. Because of its practical e human character in addition with the circumstances that exists inside and outside the human action, the φρόνησις virtue, when inserted in its time and place, offers the foundation for deliberative practices and decision-making, within others elements that exist in the practical rationality that underlies the epistemology of the current bioethical tendencies.
